How to deal with mistakes

Sometimes we’re going along in our business, minding our own business and CRASH, we make a mistake!

Quick! Run for cover, cover it up, hide, put it right, hope no one notices, issue public apologies. And so the list goes on.

Folks, open your umbrellas, here comes the Storm of Shame

  • I shouldn't have done that

  • I look like a proper amateur now

  • What will people think of me? (ugh, we know what our brains are telling us)

  • I'm such an idiot

  • Nobody will ever hire me again

  • I'll never make any more money

  • I'll end up…DESTITUTE

All of this thinking feels so terrible.

Here's the great news. We don't have to believe any of those thoughts. We don't have to buy into what our brains tell us.

Instead, we can decide, on purpose, to think completely different thoughts about what happened, who we are and what will happen to us.

We can think whatever we want and (here's my favourite part) there's NOTHING anyone can do to stop us.

We can actually instruct our brains what to think. This idea still kinda blows my mind. We can tell our brains what to think and we can watch our brains thinking.

So when I made a mistake in my email last week (a button with the wrong link) I decided to make it mean the following;

  • nothing bad has happened

  • nothing has gone wrong

  • I can put it right

  • Mistakes are designed for me, not against me

  • I can choose what I want to make this mean

  • My people are smart enough to figure out the route to The Vault (the place the button said it was going to take them to)

  • Nobody is even going to notice

All of these thoughts, the ones I chose to think on purpose, felt SO much better than the thoughts that my brain really wanted me to think, those sentences that my brain offered me on default at lightening speed.

And when we feel better, we do better things, and when we DO better things, we get results that we want.

To get the results that we want for our businesses we have to stop thinking the thoughts that feel so bad. It's a skill I teach in my 1:1 practice and I'll be teaching it in depth at the upcoming in person event, The Rich Lush Learning Lab. One full day in person event in Brighton.

We will create a new definition of wealth and success, discover the truth about what you REALLY need as a service provider and how to best serve your clients NOW (hint; it’s not a website or branding), and learn the most effective way to create clients, and increase your belief in yourself, your offer and your audience (way before you have the confidence)

We will not be following 10 step funnel creation plans, developing the perfect offer and the perfect marketing strategy, filling out blueprints or squeezing you into a cookie cutter version of what you THINK your audience wants.
